Do You Insure Your Pet?

Posted on Mar 07, 2010 by Pet Text

Is pet insurance really worth the money? The answer to this varies depending on your needs and attitude.

Obviously your financial situation is the overwhelming factor in the decision making process. There have been just as many published articles praising pet insurance as articles that flat out discredit it. Those for it describe instances where your pet has an underlying medical condition or one or more severe accidents that take place throughout your pet's lifetime. Lets face it, if your pet never gets sick or in an accident, pet insurance was not worth it based on financial considerations.

But was it still worth it? Keep in mind that insurance is a form of security. We never know in advance that our loved one is going to be in an accident or develop a serious illness. The insurance gives us peace of mind that we have financial assistance and guidance through unfortunate events.

Pet insurance is a personal decision that you will need to apply to your unique situation. We encourage you to comparison shop different plans and read the fine print. Know what the plan covers and does not cover and the corresponding deductibles. Some plans even provide additional services that can help save money over your pet's life, such as reduced cost or free vet visits, cheaper drugs and grooming, etc. One question you should ask yourself is whether or not you have an emergency fund that will help cover any significant event that can occur.

It's Good to Have Connections

Posted on Feb 16, 2010 by Man Text

We are constantly amazed at how mobile technology changes our lives; in some instances, even saves it.

A man kidnapped at gunpoint and locked in the trunk of a car was able to use his mobile phone to call for help. Sometimes we get a little cranky when we write the monthly check for our phone bill but we need to remember that it's often more than a fancy gadget. It's a tool for staying connected, sometimes when you need to be connected the most.

Acetaminophen Linked to Asthma

Posted on Feb 14, 2010 by Pregnancy Text

Children may be more likely to develop asthma if the mothers were taking acetaminophen prenatally.

A recent study published in Thorax has demonstrated a potential link between asthma and the detoxification of foreign substances.  The study followed 300 African-American and Dominican Republican children who were exposed to the substance prenatally.

The finding suggests a stronger relationship among individuals who had a variant gene, which is responsible for the detoxification process.  The variant gene is more common among individuals in this ethnic group.

Acetaminophen is commonly used in treating a variety of ailments and its use should be discussed with your doctor.

It's All About Contingency...

Posted on Feb 14, 2010 by Wedding Text

How many of us take pleasure in reading posts on the countless mishaps that happen at other peoples' weddings?  Shamelessly, I will admit I DO

It is part of our job here at Wedding Text to bring you wedding planning tips and entertainment.  During my research, I have come across many wild stories of matrimony.

Take, for example, the couple who had everything prepared for their backyard wedding.  To combat the possibility of rain, the couple had even rented a ginormous tent, which ultimately paid off. Everything was going to be fine, or so they thought.  Midway during the ceremony, one of the neighbors had let out their dogs which promptly barreled through the tent, into the ceremony, jumped on the bride and soiled her beautiful wedding dress.

It just goes to show that regardless of contingency planning there will always be something for which you didn't plan. The best contingency plan of all is to be prepared to roll with the punches.

Personally, on my wedding day, the only mishaps were the cake guy being involved in an auto accident on the way to the wedding and my father-in-law dropping my wife on the floor after being carried around the dance floor on his shoulders.  And yes, the fall was caught on video tape.

We would love to hear your wedding stories and with your permission would consider publishing it in a future Wedding Text blog post.

And, if you know any couples getting engaged and planning a wedding, be sure to propose Wedding Text.

What Gives You Hope?

Posted on Feb 14, 2010 by Posi-Text

PosiText is all about giving you a daily booster shot of positive thinking through a brief, daily text message.  It's a supplemental service that reaches out to you, rather than you reaching out to find something positive.  PosiText makes it easier for you to recognize your glass is half full.

Occasionally, the developers of PosiText scour the Internet looking for other services and tools that may benefit our subscribers.  We recently stumbled upon such a website in GivesMeHope.

GivesMeHope was launched in response to FML.  According to the FML website, it is:

a collection of everyday anecdotes and stories likely to happen to anyone and everyone, sent to us exclusively by our users, which we then publish on the site. This is a space where you can let it all out and unwind by sharing the little things that screw with your day, and maybe realize that you are not alone in experiencing day to day crap. The site is meant to be fun to read and can be enjoyed on a daily basis.

Readers Beware: Many of the posts on FML deal with sensitive or raunchy issues, albeit in a rather tongue-in-cheek fashion; it does provide its users with a satirical way of coping with day-to-day issues.

To combat the negativity on FML, GivesMeHope provides a collection of everyday stories that 'give hope' to its readers.  One message posted on their website gives a story of charity:

I recently cut my hair and donated it to locks of love. As I approached the counter to pay for the haircut, the receptionist informed me that the gentleman who was getting his hair cut a few seats down from me had paid for my haircut. He thought it was a wonderful thing that I was doing and that I shouldn't have to pay to help someone else. GMH.

We like to think that PosiText hands out little nuggets of hope as well. Check it out and let us know what you think!
