Acetaminophen Linked to Asthma

Children may be more likely to develop asthma if the mothers were taking acetaminophen prenatally.

A recent study published in Thorax has demonstrated a potential link between asthma and the detoxification of foreign substances.  The study followed 300 African-American and Dominican Republican children who were exposed to the substance prenatally.

The finding suggests a stronger relationship among individuals who had a variant gene, which is responsible for the detoxification process.  The variant gene is more common among individuals in this ethnic group.

Acetaminophen is commonly used in treating a variety of ailments and its use should be discussed with your doctor.
